Mamaroneck Town Board Considers Parking Permit Changes

Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney called the Tuesday, July 15, Town Council meeting to order, beginning with Eney’s attending the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department Award and Promotion Ceremony on Monday, June 23 in which Police Officer Candace Whitney was promoted to Sergeant, the first female Sergeant in the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department history

The ceremony also recognized Police Officers Timothy Geary and Andrew Sposta, who received the Excellent Police Duty Medal for their swift and compassionate response in aiding an individual in crisis. Sergeant Michael Downes was awarded the Lifesaving Medal for his incredible off-duty actions, rendering lifesaving aid to a six-month-old child who was choking.

Next, Town Attorney William Maker introduced a Public Hearing regarding Creation of New Parking Permits in the Town’s Parking Lots law.  “Tonight’s proposed law will do two things,” Maker began.  “First, it will create two new types of parking permits for the

Town parking lots and eliminates the rule prohibiting more than one member of a single household from having a 24-hour parking permit.”

“The first type of permit is for non-residents in Lot A, a daytime permit, that will allow us to ‘grandfather’ in five people that have been in our system for 20 years that we have identified as non-residents.  We will create non-residents Daytime Parking Permits in Lot A.”

“The second type of permit is a single-use Daily Permit for residents who don’t need an ongoing daily permit, the option to park in Lot A in a special section for a day.  The third permit is to residents, and this is for our 24-hour Lot B,”  Town Clerk Allison May continued.

The Town’s parking opportunities with no capital investment, proposed to the Town Board include:

· Allow Nonresidents to purchase Lot A Daytime Permits at a higher rate.

· Repatriate spots from Baldwin Avenue to add nine more meters within Lot A.

· Convert unused spaces in Lot A, along Myrtle Boulevard to an area for single use, one-day-only permits to offer senior/infrequent commuter option.

The three parking permits being considered are:

· Single-use One-day-only Permits in Lot A (for residents; area to be designated along Myrtle Boulevard in Lot A),

· Nonresident Daytime Commuter Parking Permits in Lot A (limited to 20 allowed per year).

· Allow additional 24-hour parking permits in Lot B, D and E per household (for residents, the current limit of one per household would be lifted).
