Lions Recycle Eyeglasses

The Lions brought over 1,500 collected used eyeglasses to the Lions Recycle Center in Trenton, New Jersey. The glasses were collected by three Lions Clubs – Larchmont Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye City.

The Lions, whose signature cause is eye health and help for the blind, collect millions of used eyeglasses each year at various community locations, such as the local library, banks, businesses, schools and optometrists’ offices.

Collected glasses are taken to the recycle center in Trenton.  The recycling process includes Lions volunteers sorting, cleaning and determining the prescription strengths of the glasses, which are then packaged and distributed worldwide.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions mission is to support – with funding, volunteers and advocacy, local service groups by bringing community leaders together to determine needs, resources & achieve solutions. The LM Lions are part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization of more than 1.4 million members. The Lions signature cause is Vision/Blindness, along with Hunger, the Environment, Diabetes, Childhood Cancer and the future of our Youth.  They are signatories of the United Nations resolutions on women’s and refugee rights, and are currently active in Afghanistan and Ukrainian refugee resettlement.  In addition, affordable housing is a local Lions priority.  For more information, go to http://www.lmlionsclub.org/
