Two new personnel appointments were made at a special meeting of the Board of Education. Adriane Hirsch-Klein was named Assistant Principal at Hommocks Middle School and Jennifer Solomon was named Assistant Principal at Chatsworth Ave. School, effective July 1, 2022.

Adriane Hirsch-Klein comes to Mamaroneck from Greenwich Public Schools (GPS), where she has had extensive K-12 experience managing and revising curriculum, leading professional development and supervising student assessment with the aim of closing the achievement gap. For the past six years, she has served as the K-12 Languages Coordinator designing, developing and evaluating the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and World Language programs.

Ms. Hirsch-Klein began her career with GPS in 2008 as a middle school Spanish and ESOL teacher for six years and then moved on for two years to assume the role of elementary K-5 ENL specialist, which included teaching a Bilingual cohort. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from Duke University, a Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Baruch College, and post-master’s Leadership and Education certificates from Sacred Heart University and Manhattanville.

“I am thrilled to be joining Mamaroneck, a district that values diversity as an asset in education and look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to further enhance teaching and learning at Hommocks and provide a welcoming, inclusive school environment,” Ms. Hirsch-Klein said.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Shaps added, “Ms. Hirsch-Klein has a strong track record engaging students and families, and in particular, her bilingualism will provide an opportunity to enhance engagement with our Spanish-speaking families. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Mamaroneck School District.”

Jennifer Solomon has been named Interim Chatsworth Ave. School AP.

Ms. Solomon is a highly experienced educator with 21 years of teaching in both the early and upper elementary school grades in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from SUNY Binghamton University, a Masters in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education, and an Advanced Certification in Building Leadership from the College of New Rochelle.

“As a teacher, leader, and educator, Ms. Solomon has contributed significantly to building an empathetic school atmosphere, advancing physical and psychological safety, while sustainably elevating student engagement and achievement at Chatsworth Avenue School,” Chatsworth Ave. School Principal Lauren Scharfstein said. “We are so pleased she will be transitioning to our administrative leadership team.”

Ms. Solomon partnered with building leadership to introduce RULER, a school-wide research-based social-emotional learning program, founded a student leadership program to empower and engage student leaders and foster empathy and camaraderie during recess time, and most recently served as a Mamaroneck Educational Equity Leader.  In this role, she launched the Chatsworth Equity Team, organized building-wide programs, and provided professional development for teachers centered on diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
