New Central Assistant Principal Named

The Mamaroneck Union Free School District has announced the appointment of Mrs. Ilene Zucker as Assistant Principal at Central Elementary School. Ilene’s educational journey began 16 years ago as an elementary school teacher in the New York City Department of Education’s District 2. Ilene spent 10 years teaching across the elementary school grades, primarily as a special educator. Her time spent developing curriculum and getting to know the stories of each of her students has given her a deep understanding of how children at this level learn, grow and thrive.
From there, Ilene moved to middle school, where she became a founding teacher and then Assistant Principal at MS 297- a new zoned, unscreened and untracked middle school striving to close the educational gaps and promote equity and inclusivity. Her experience as an administrator at the middle school level provides a unique insight into students’ journeys, both academically and socially-emotionally.
Ilene holds a Bachelor of Arts in Family Studies from the University of Maryland. Additionally, she holds a Masters in Teaching from Pace University. She is also certified in teaching Students with Disabilities and Early Childhood Education. Finally, Ilene holds a Masters in School Building Leadership from Touro University. Ilene currently resides on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with her husband, Jonathan and their 2-year-old son, Benjamin. Ilene is thrilled to join the wonderful community in Mamaroneck and is appreciative of this opportunity.
