The Larchmont Chamber of Commerce held their second annual Holiday Tree Decorating Contest during the month of December.  Six non-profit organizations were invited to decorate trees with the theme of “Give the Light of Love.” The public voted for their favorite, with the winner, Girl Scouts of Larchmont-Mamaroneck, receiving $500.

Organizations entering the contest, and their sponsoring businesses, included: Girl Scouts of Larchmont Mamaroneck, sponsored by Apiary; Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club, sponsored by Catizone Engineering; LMC Media, sponsored by The Flower Bar; Friends in OEIS, sponsored by GC Insurance Group; The Fuller Center, sponsored by Larchmont Music Academy; and Junior League Westchester on the Sound, sponsored by Clarke Auction.

The Girl Scouts garnered the most votes, for the second year in a row, with their hand made ornaments and thoughtful interpretation of the theme. They made ornaments to honor the many organizations in the community who “gave the light of love” by helping residents who struggled this past year, particularly due to COVID and Hurricane Ida. Featured on the ornaments were logos of organizations such as The Community Resource Center, all of the local Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, The Larchmont Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force and many houses of worship.

Girl Scout Leaders Fran Smith and Liz Haggerty coordinated ornament-making workshops, attended by more than 60 girls in grades K-8. “Each ornament was handcrafted with love by a Girl Scout,” commented Liz.  “This activity brought so much joy to all the girls, parents and troop leaders as well as the community members who came out to enjoy the beautiful trees and vote.”

Over 20 Girl Scouts helped with the actual decorating of the tree.  “It was a real Girl Scout Community effort,” commented Service Unit Manager Pat Allen. “The girls really enjoyed knowing they were part of a community that has helped our neighbors so much over the past year.”

The Girl Scouts would like to thank Larchmont Nurseries who generously donated the trees, the Village of Larchmont and Larchmont Chamber of Commerce, as well as Apiary and all of the other sponsors who together created a wonderfully festive atmosphere in Larchmont during the holiday season.
