Police and Fire Reports Disseminated at Board Meeting

Larchmont Deputy Mayor Sarah Bauer opened a virtual Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, January 10, noting that the Library and Sanitation Commission are short staffed, due to the COVID Omicron variant. She announced the death of Sanitation Worker John Mastromarino, who lost his life to COVID.
Next, Trustee Brigid Brennan affirmed appointments of John Bloom and Ann G. Lefever to the Finance and Budget Committee.
Police Chief Chris McNerney noted that three Officers tested positive for COVID and mentioned retirements of Officers Matthew Irvine and Scott Schnall, plus two other vacancies. Also, Sergeants Dan Calapai and Joseph Paprota participated in a pilot program of Police-worn Axon Body Cameras.
“On December 9th, at approximately 9:44 a.m. there was a tragic report of a fatal workplace accident that occurred at a Grove Avenue residence. The homeowner hired a company to clean the exterior home windows and it is believed that one of the workers stepped on a roof portion just outside the third-floor windows, slipped and fell to the ground level deck. He was taken to Montefiore Hospital, where he died.
“Fire Chief John Caparelli notified Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), who responded to the scene; we are awaiting their findings.” McNerney pointed to a trend of stolen or “washed” checks, including a $57 check to Verizon, taken from a Boston Post Road and Lorenzen Street mailbox on Christmas morning and forged to $1800, payable to a third party.
Caparelli reminded residents to remove snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours. Gas-powered generators should be placed outside, 10 feet from windows and doors. Fireplace ashes must never be placed in a trash can; instead soaked in water and placed in a metal container, 10 feet from the home.
Resolutions encompassed a Tax Lien Sale on Monday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m.; 2022 Hazard Mitigation Update; FY 2021 Village Audit; transferring old Trust Account Balances to General Fund and approving previous Work Session Resolution for Non-Union Employee Salary Increases.
