Former Larchmont Mayor Commemorated at Mamaroneck Town Meeting
BY STEPHEN E. LIPKEN
Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney closed the September 2 meeting in memory of Miriam Curnin, Larchmont’s first female mayor and Larchmont Library Board Chair, who passed away on August 27. Curnin served four terms as mayor, beginning in 1984, after spending three years as a trustee. She retired in 1992.
Eney reminded residents that the first half of the 2026-27 School Taxes received after September 30 will incur penalties. “Taxpayers are encouraged to utilize the Town’s online echeck payment system. It’s safe, expedient and you get a receipt. With the echeck there is no additional cost. Some people use bank software to mail out checks. That is not recommended because they are not postmarked.
“If the checks get to us late, you have no way to prove when the checks were actually mailed and you would be subject to penalty,” she continued. The local mail service has experienced significant delays, she said. Eney directed residents to sign up for alerts at the Mamaroneck Town website www.townofmamaroneck.gov.
For the 25th anniversary of September 11th, Mamaroneck held a tri-municipal commemoration on September 10 in Memorial Park. The Ceremony brought together first responders of the Town and two Villages, veterans, clergy, public officials, scouting troops and residents. In 2024 a new memorial was dedicated, honoring the Town’s first responders whose 9/11-related service contributed to their illnesses and deaths.
Councilman Jeffery King presented the Fire Claims, certified by Chief Alex Rapp, amounting to $6,202,07. This was approved by Roll Call Vote.
Regarding 2026 Capital Budget Amendments, Treasurer Tracy Yogman said that the planned crosswalks were completed and she recommended a budget amendment to transfer the remaining balance back to the Highway Fund. An Ice Rink Compressor/Dehumidifier for next summer costing $3.9 million in serial bonds was approved by Roll Call Vote.
