Mamaroneck Gets $900,000 Grant to Renovate Harbor Island Park Playground
The Village of Mamaroneck has been awarded $900,000 through the New York State Municipal Parks and Recreation Grant Program for the renovation of the Harbor Island Park Playground.
The funds will be used to replace deteriorating playground equipment with a safer, more inclusive, and more accessible space for children of all abilities. Planned improvements include accessible ramps and sensory play features designed to create an engaging and welcoming play environment for families throughout Mamaroneck and the surrounding region.
Harbor Island Park is one of the Village’s most beloved and heavily used public spaces, receiving approximately 300,000 visits annually. The playground renovation will help restore and improve a cherished community hub within the park.
“We are incredibly grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Parks, and the Environmental Bond Act for awarding the Village $900,000 through the Municipal Parks and Recreation Grant Program,” said Mayor Sharon Torres. “This funding will help us replace aging playground equipment at Harbor Island Park with a safer, more inclusive and more accessible space for children of all abilities. Harbor Island Park is one of our most beloved community spaces, and this project reflects our continued commitment to improving public spaces and expanding recreational opportunities for generations to come.”
