Solar Panels Installed at Larchmont Library
A new solar energy system went live on the rooftop of the Larchmont Public Library, 121 Larchmont Avenue. This exciting milestone is the largest Village of Larchmont solar project and was made possible by a Clean Energy Communities grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The solar system has a total of 77 photovoltaic (PV) panels with a capacity to generate about 30 kW of clean energy. The library was chosen for the system, given its flat roof area that had recently been upgraded. Some of the panels are at the front of the library and others toward the back, but none are visible from the street.
This initiative, which will offset carbon emissions and reduce electrical costs for the Village of Larchmont, was made possible through collaboration between the Village Board, staff, and the many dedicated volunteers on the Larchmont Environmental Committee, Climate Smart Community (CSC) Task Force, and Larchmont Library Board. CSC Co-Chair Mark Manley oversaw the project from idea to implementation. Contractor partners were National Solar and Greenpoint Solar.
