Parks Kick Off 2022 Bicycle Sundays Season
Westchester Parks Foundation and Westchester County Parks announced details for the 48th Annual Bicycle Sundays season for 2022. During this annual event, bicyclists, skaters, joggers and walkers will take over 6.5 miles of the Bronx River Parkway. The program kicks off on May 1 and continues every Sunday in May, June, and September – except Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. The program is presented by Westchester County Parks and sponsored by the Westchester Parks Foundation and its partners, through generous donations from co-presenting sponsors NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital and Con Edison.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “Year after year, the community comes out in droves to participate in Bicycle Sundays. It’s such a wonderful program that allows friends and families to practice healthy traditions together while soaking in the scenery of the Bronx River Reservation.”
Seth Mandelbaum, Chair of Westchester Parks Foundation stated, “Bicycle Sundays is a great way to promote a healthy outdoor lifestyle for the entire family, along the oldest park in Westchester – the Bronx River Parkway Reservation. We are grateful to NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital and Con Edison for their generous support and commitment to parks and open space.”
Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said, “Support from the Westchester Parks Foundation and its sponsors has helped sustain our longest running, most-loved program – Bicycle Sundays – for the past decade; it brings in participants from across the county to utilize the open space of the Bronx River Parkway without the interruption of vehicles to hone in on their cycling skills or to enjoy time with family.”
Paul Dunphey, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital said, “We are proud to once again collaborate with the Westchester Parks Foundation for Bicycle Sundays, an event that is unique to Westchester County and encourages people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Whether it’s bicycling, skating, or taking a stroll with your friends or family, the program offers something for everyone, and it’s a great way to support community health in a fun and accessible way.”
Frances A. Resheske, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Con Edison remarked, “Con Edison is pleased to once again co-sponsor Bicycle Sundays, a popular Westchester County pastime that has brought joy to people for nearly half a century. We are proud to support the Westchester Parks Foundation and many other nonprofit organizations across Westchester to help strengthen the neighborhoods we serve, educate children and increase environmental awareness.”
Residents and visitors can enjoy Bicycle Sundays this year on the following dates between 10a.m. and 2 p.m.: June 5, 12, 19, 26; September 11, 18, 25; October 2.
Bicycle Sundays are a beloved Westchester tradition since 1974. Since 2012, this program has been funded by Westchester Parks Foundation and its partners. Each year, more than 60,000 cyclists, joggers, and others come out to enjoy the curves and wooded scenery that make the nation’s first parkway a national historic landmark. The path winds alongside the wooded Bronx River Reservation.
