On Thursday, May 18, At Home on the Sound will host a gala at the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club. This year’s honoree is Larchmont resident Elaine Chapnick. At Home will also recognize long-time volunteer Lois Herzberg at the Gala.

The theme for the gala is Swing into Spring and will feature a D.J. playing big-band classics and contemporary music. Gala co-chair Colleen Styer said, “We look forward to seeing everyone on the dance floor celebrating and swinging into spring.”

At Home on the Sound, a grassroots, non-profit organization, provides Larchmont and Mamaroneck residents with the assistance they need to live confidently at home in the community they love.  The proceeds from the annual gala help to make this mission possible.

The idea for a local aging-in-place organization took root at a Larchmont-Mamaroneck Local Summit meeting in the early 2000s. At Home Executive Director Gloria Spedafino-Golle said, “We are thrilled to honor Elaine Chapnick, President of the Local Summit at the gala.” Mrs. Chapnick is a Barnard College graduate, former member of the Barnard College Board of Trustees, and a recipient of the Columbia University Alumni Award.  She has an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She was a founding member of the Community Resource Center and was instrumental in establishing LMC-TV. Mrs. Chapnick has served on the boards of the Center for Continuing Education, the Emelin Theatre, Larchmont League of Women Voters, Larchmont Temple, and the School Board Selection Committee. She and her husband David Chapnick have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

During her career at the Yonkers Public Library, Lois Herzberg served on a committee that addressed senior citizen issues.  After retiring, Lois volunteered with the newly founded At Home on the Sound, which was a perfect fit for her and the organization.  Ms. Herzberg said about At Home, “Not only do I love my role, but I have made many good friends. I found another passion in my life, in addition to bird watching and reading!”

Teddi Becker, President of At Home said, “We look forward to recognizing these two women on May 18 th. Elaine for her service to the community and Lois for her commitment and hard work with At Home on the Sound.”

Gala co-chair Marion Gindes added that the gala will include a silent auction. Visit www.athomeonthesound.org for more information about gala tickets, sponsorship opportunities and At Home on the Sound.
