Winged Foot Golf Club Selected to Host 2028 U.S. Open

On January 9,  The USGA announced that Winged Foot Golf Club (West Course), in Mamaroneck, has been selected as the host site for the 2028 U.S. Open Championship.

Third Annual Five Towns: One Book to Explore the Life and Work of Writer and Activist, Lorraine Hansberry

The Coalition for Understanding Racism through Education (CURE), in partnership with The Lorraine Hansberry Coalition (LHC) and five Westchester public libraries, will host the third annual “Five Towns: One Book,” a series of free events featuring a discussion on February 11th, with Soyica Diggs Colbert author of Radical Vision, A Biography of Lorraine Hansberry followed by four events that run from March through April 15th.

Community Food Drive for Hope Kitchen

The Woman’s Club of Larchmont, Inc. will be holding its periodic food drive for Hope Community Services, an organization that distributes bagged groceries to individuals within the community.  Members of the Woman’s Club will be outside the Larchmont Avenue Church on Larchmont Avenue, in Larchmont, from l0:00 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Save the Sound Sets Agenda for 2023 New York State Legislative Session

New York’s state legislative session has begun and runs through June 8. This is the first session to be held fully in person with buildings open to the public since before the pandemic, offering a much-anticipated opportunity to reconnect with elected officials in person and advocate deeply for the environmental issues that matter most. It’s also Governor Kathy Hochul’s first full session as New York State’s chief executive.  

O’Callaghan to Lead 2023 St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee announces the 2023 Grand Marshal, Anthony “Tony” O’Callaghan. Tony will have the honor of leading the annual Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade as its 11th official Parade Grand Marshal on Sunday March 19th, 2023. 

Larchmont Native Awarded a Paul Miller Fellowship

The National Press Foundation has named 20 journalists for the Paul Miller Fellowship 2023 Class. For over 30 years, the Paul Miller Reporting Fellowship has helped talented reporters navigate the political arena in Washington, D.C. As a member of the Class of 2023, Larchmont native James Levinson will be granted the privilege of networking with top lawmakers, political experts, and seasoned reporters. 

Joseph DelBianco Obituary

Joseph DelBianco, the longtime Police Chief in the Village of Mamaroneck, passed away on Christmas Day. He was 93. 

Neighborhood Winter Tree Walk

On a bright winter afternoon, a group of about 30 hearty souls braved the cold for the Town of Mamaroneck’s Neighborhood Winter Tree Walk. Jocelyn Kleinman, Sheldrake Environmental Center’s Education Director led the group through the Sheldrake River Trail. As the group walked through the quiet, peaceful woods, Jocelyn explained why trees lose their leaves in preparation for surviving the winter.
