Work Begins on Mamaroneck’s Parks Building

Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney opened the Town Board meeting on April 8 by announcing that work has begun on the Parks Building.  “On March 30 we broke ground on the long-awaited Parks Building, which was partially destroyed during Hurricane Ida.  The new building has a green HVAC system, which was funded in part by grants,” she said.

 

“On April 1 the Town along with other Long Island Watershed Communities signed an Intermunicipal Agreement  (IMA), revitalizing the Long Island Sound Watershed Intermunicipal Council (LISWIC). The event was at Rye Playland.”

 

The first Public Hearing covered the Adoption of the Updated NYStretch Energy Code Law. To promote the public health, safety and welfare of its residents by requiring compliance with energy efficient building standards, in 2021, the Town Board adopted the NYStretch Energy Code 2020, published by the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority.  

 

The NYStretch Energy Code 2020 shall apply to all new construction, substantial renovations, alterations and additions in the unincorporated area of the Town with respect to properties for which a building permit was issued prior to December 31, 2025. This was approved.

 

The Second Public Hearing pertained to fields available for use on Saturdays starting at 8 AM instead of 9 AM, the current rule. Town Attorney William Maker stressed that it was a temporary measure, effective April 11, reverting to 9 AM after Saturday, June 27. 

 

Meeting as Fire Commissioners, the Board relayed a request by Fire Chief Alex Rapp to remit to the Controller the sum of $6,227.66, approved by Roll Call Vote.  There were 76 alarms; total personnel responding numbered 797; total time working was 55 hours, 40 minutes.  

 

Reverting to the Regular Board Meeting, Affairs of the Town included setting a Public Hearing on April 22 for Proposed Local Law, “Revision of the Senior Citizens Tax Exemption;” Consideration-Millennium Strategies Agreement; Consideration to Reject Bid TA-26-01,Highway Department Materials Disposal; Consideration-Consultant Proposal 2026 Design Development for Storm Sewer Improvements and Consideration-NYS Unified Solar Permit Application.
