Girl Scouts Provide Trunk or Treat for the CRC

On Sunday, October 20, the Girl Scouts of Larchmont Mamaroneck hosted a “Trunk or Treat” for families of the Community Resource Center (CRC) in Mamaroneck. The event was held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the temporary home of the CRC. The Girl Scouts came up with the idea last spring and received a grant from the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club to support the event. Pat Allen, Service Unit Manager for the Girl Scouts of Larchmont Mamaroneck, applied for the grant. “We thought this would be a great way to give back to the community, provide joy for both the CRC families and the Girl Scouts, and support a fellow Lions Club member organization. “

Nine troops participated by decorating their cars and handing out candy to the children who came by. The decorations were very creative, with some inspired by Halloween monsters, Taylor Swift, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Under the Sea, and the children’s game, Candy Land. A balloon twister was on hand to make balloon animals, pumpkins, and other creations. The kids could also make a ghost craft and vote for their favorite “trunk.” Junior Troop 1791 won the “Favorite Trunk” prize with their Candy Land-themed display.

In addition, the Girl Scouts collected over 150 Halloween costumes, which were sorted, bagged, and labeled by Cadette Troops 2772 and 2698 and given to the CRC to distribute to families.

CRC Case Manager, Liseth Paredes, commented that the children all had a wonderful time and that the event was a special treat that no one had ever provided for the CRC before. She hopes it will become an annual tradition.

The Girl Scouts of Larchmont Mamaroneck thank the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club for their generosity and support for this event.
