Girl Scouts Win Tree Decorating Contest and Bring Cheer to Others
The month of December was very busy for our local Girl Scouts. The month kicked off the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce Winter Wonder-Land Tree Decorating Contest. The girls made ornaments and decorated the tree for shoppers to enjoy (and vote for) during the holiday season. Their tree was sponsored by Catizone Engineering and the contest was sponsored by Wonder, who provided the $500 prize money to the Girl Scouts for receiving the most votes for their tree. Other local organizations that decorated trees and entered the contest were The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club, Fields for Kids, Autism Speaks, and the Junior League.
The girls then rolled right into their Annual Holiday Fair at the Larchmont Girl Scout House which featured a variety of handmade crafts and gifts for sale by both Girl Scout troops and local artisans. They then provided two carloads full of gifts to fulfill the wish lists of three families who are clients of the Community Resource Center and needed some extra cheer and support during the holidays. The Girl Scouts also collected new hats, gloves, and mittens for The Sharing Shelf to deliver to children in need. HOPE Community Services also received 27 “Birthday Boxes” from the Girl Scouts which featured cake mix, frosting, birthday candles, plates, and napkins all in a disposable baking pan. Lastly, the Girl Scouts provided over 50 residents of Sarah Neuman with holiday cards and goody bags featuring a box of Girl Scout cookies and other treats.
“The girls love being involved in the community and helping others,” noted Pat Allen, Service Unit Manager for Girl Scouts in Larchmont Mamaroneck. “It’s part of who we are and our commitment to making the world a better place.”
