The Village of Larchmont Achieves Bronze Certification
The Village of Larchmont has achieved Bronze Certification under New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Program. This milestone achievement proves that the Village of Larchmont continues to be a leader among municipalities on environmental issues in taking action to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
To achieve the certification, the Village accumulated points for planning and implementing actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve community resilience in the face of worsening impacts of climate change. This achievement would not have been possible without the years of work and accomplishments of the Larchmont Environmental Committee. Visit www.larchmontny.gov/government/advisory_committees/environment.php to learn more about the Committee.
The Village’s complete CSC Certification Report contains descriptions and supporting documentation for all actions. Some highlights of the many actions completed include:
• Community GHG Inventory.
• Switching streetlights to LED.
• Engaging in Community Repair events, Climate-related Public Events, and Community Campaigns.
• Supporting compost bin availability and residential organic waste collection as a member of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Joint Sanitation Commission.
• Installing EV chargers.
• Maintaining Tree City USA membership status.
• Participating in the Community Choice Aggregation program.
• Developing a Climate Change Education & Engagement Strategy document, and
• Implementing an innovative action as the first municipality in the Northeastern U.S. to have a complete ban on gas-powered leaf blowers.
